Material Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design words developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding upon the "card" motifs that debuted in Yahoo Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive transitions and animations, padding, and depth effects such as lamps and shadows.Google declared Material Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Developer Mat?as Duarte described that, "unlike real newspaper, our digital material can expand and reform intelligently. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Seams and shadows provide meaning about what you can touch. " Google states that their new design vocabulary is based on printer ink and newspaper.Materials Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which is used on nearly all Android devices produced after 2009. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a constant experience across all applications and platforms. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to incorporate the look language to their applicationsBy 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Google android experienced applied the new design words, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Google Docs, Slides and sheets, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all the Google Play-branded applications, and to an inferior extent the Chromium browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical execution of Material Design for web application user interfaces is named Polymer. It consists of the Polymer catalogue, a shim that delivers an online Components API for web browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, like the "paper elements collection" that has visual elements of the Materials Design.
