Materials Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design dialect developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "greeting card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lighting and shadows.On June 25 google announced Material Design, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Custom made Mat?as Duarte described that, "unlike real newspaper, our digital materials can increase and reform intelligently. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Seams and shadows provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google states that their new design vocabulary is based on ink and paper.Material Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat catalogue, which is utilized on all Android devices produced after 2009 virtually. Material Design will steadily be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a constant experience across all platforms and applications. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language to their applicationsBy 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Android acquired applied the new design language, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Yahoo Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Maps, Inbox, all of the Yahoo Play-branded applications, and to an inferior degree the Chromium Google and internet browser Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Material Design for web software user interfaces is called Polymer. It consists of the Polymer library, a shim that delivers an internet Components API for browsers that do not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that has visual components of the Material Design.
