Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "credit card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based designs, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as shadows and lamps.On June 25 google announced Materials Design, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Custom Mat?as Duarte discussed that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can intelligently extend and reform. Materials has physical sides and floors. Shadows and seams provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google expresses that their new design language is based on ink and paper.Material Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat library, which can be used on all Android devices made after 2009 virtually. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a consistent experience across all platforms and applications. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to incorporate the design language to their applicationsBy 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Google android acquired applied the new design terminology, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Yahoo Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Maps, Inbox, every one of the Google Play-branded applications, also to an inferior magnitude the Chrome Yahoo and browser Keep. It includes the Polymer library, a shim that provides an internet Components API for web browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that features visual elements of the Materials Design.
