Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding upon the "cards" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based designs, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth results such as shadows and lamps.On June 25 google declared Material Design, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Creator Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can expand and reform intelligently. Materials has physical ends and areas. Seams and shadows provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google claims that their new design dialect is dependant on printer ink and paper.Materials Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which is used on virtually all Android devices produced after 2009. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a consistent experience across all applications and platforms. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to incorporate the design language to their applicationsBy 2015 the majority of Google's mobile applications for Android experienced applied the new design terms, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Yahoo Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Maps, Inbox, all of the Google Play-branded applications, and to an inferior degree the Stainless internet browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Materials Design for web program user interfaces is named Polymer.
