Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design vocabulary developed in 2014 by Google. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a regular experience across all applications and platforms. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language to their applicationsBy 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Android os got applied the new design language, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Yahoo Docs, Slides and sheets, Google Maps, Inbox, every one of the Google Play-branded applications, and to a smaller amount the Chromium Google and browser Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Materials Design for web software user interfaces is named Polymer. It contains the Polymer catalogue, a shim that delivers an online Components API for web browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that has visual components of the Materials Design.
