Materials Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Google. Expanding upon the "credit card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based designs, responsive transitions and animations, padding, and depth results such as lighting and shadows.Google declared Material Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Custom made Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can expand and reform intelligently. Material has physical corners and floors. Seams and shadows provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google state governments that their new design terminology is dependant on ink and paper.Materials Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat library, which is employed on virtually all Android devices created after 2009. Material Design will gradually be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a regular experience across all platforms and applications. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the look language to their applicationsBy 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Android os acquired applied the new design terms, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all of the Yahoo Play-branded applications, also to a smaller level the Stainless browser and Yahoo Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Material Design for web software user interfaces is called Polymer.
