Material Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design vocabulary developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding upon the "credit card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as shadows and lighting.On June 25 google released Material Design, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Developer Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can intelligently extend and reform. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Seams and shadows provide meaning about what you can touch. " Google claims that their new design terms is dependant on ink and paper.Materials Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat catalogue, which is used on all Android devices manufactured after 2009 virtually. Material Design will gradually be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a steady experience across all platforms and applications. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language to their applicationsAs of 2015 the majority of Google's mobile applications for Google android experienced applied the new design terminology, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all of the Google Play-branded applications, and to a smaller scope the Chromium Yahoo and internet browser Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical execution of Material Design for web software user interfaces is called Polymer.
