Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Google. Expanding after the "card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive transitions and animations, padding, and depth effects such as lamps and shadows.Yahoo announced Material Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Designer Mat?as Duarte described that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can intelligently extend and reform. Material has physical sides and areas. Seams and shadows provide meaning about what you can touch. " Google expresses that their new design dialect is based on printer ink and paper.Material Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat catalogue, which can be used on nearly all Android devices produced after 2009. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a constant experience across all applications and platforms. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the look language to their applicationsAs of 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Android os possessed applied the new design dialect, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Maps, Inbox, all the Yahoo Play-branded applications, and to a smaller magnitude the Stainless- internet browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Materials Design for web request user interfaces is called Polymer. It consists of the Polymer collection, a shim that provides a Web Components API for browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that features visual elements of the Material Design.
