Flat Design Vs Material Design: The Design War

Material Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design vocabulary developed in 2014 by Google. Expanding after the "greeting card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive transitions and animations, padding, and depth effects such as lamps and shadows.Yahoo released Materials Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Developer Mat?as Duarte described that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can extend and reform intelligently. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Seams and shadows provide meaning about what you can touch. " Google states that their new design language is based on paper and ink.Materials Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which is utilized on almost all Android devices produced after 2009. Material Design will little by little be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a consistent experience across all platforms and applications. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the look language to their applicationsAs of 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Google android acquired applied the new design language, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Yahoo Docs, Sheets and Slides, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all the Yahoo Play-branded applications, also to a smaller magnitude the Chromium internet browser and Yahoo Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Inbox and slides have integrated it as well.The canonical implementation of Material Design for web request user interfaces is called Polymer. It consists of the Polymer collection, a shim that delivers an internet Components API for browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that has visual components of the Materials Design.
