Materials Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "cards" motifs that debuted in Yahoo Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lamps and shadows.On June 25 google declared Materials Design, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Creator Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real newspaper, our digital material can expand and reform intelligently. Materials has physical ends and surfaces. Shadows and seams provide signifying about what you can touch. " Google states that their new design language is dependant on paper and ink.Material Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which is utilized on virtually all Android devices made after 2009. Material Design will gradually be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a regular experience across all applications and platforms. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the look language to their applicationsBy 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Android os possessed applied the new design terms, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Maps, Inbox, every one of the Google Play-branded applications, and to an inferior extent the Chrome web browser and Yahoo Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Inbox and slides have contained it as well.The canonical implementation of Materials Design for web software user interfaces is called Polymer. It includes the Polymer collection, a shim that provides an online Components API for web browsers that do not implement the standard natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that features visual components of the Materials Design.
