Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design terminology developed in 2014 by Google. Expanding upon the "credit card" motifs that debuted in Yahoo Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based designs, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lamps and shadows.Yahoo declared Material Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Artist Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can increase and reform intelligently. " Google states that their new design language is based on paper and ink.Material Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat catalogue, which is used on all Android devices manufactured after 2009 virtually. Material Design will little by little be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a consistent experience across all platforms and applications. It contains the Polymer catalogue, a shim that provides a Web Components API for web browsers that do not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that has visual elements of the Materials Design.
