Material Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design dialect developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "greeting card" motifs that debuted in Yahoo Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive transitions and animations, padding, and depth effects such as lighting and shadows.On June 25 google declared Material Design, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Custom made Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can expand and reform intelligently. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Shadows and seams provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google states that their new design vocabulary is based on printer ink and newspaper.Material Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat library, which is employed on all Android devices made after 2009 virtually. Material Design will steadily be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a regular experience across all platforms and applications. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language to their applicationsAs of 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Android acquired applied the new design vocabulary, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Google Docs, Slides and sheets, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all of the Yahoo Play-branded applications, also to a smaller degree the Stainless web browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical execution of Materials Design for web program user interfaces is called Polymer.
