Material Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Material Design will gradually be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a steady experience across all platforms and applications. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to incorporate the design language to their applicationsBy 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Android os had applied the new design language, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, every one of the Google Play-branded applications, and to a smaller scope the Stainless- Google and web browser Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Inbox and slides have designed it as well.The canonical implementation of Materials Design for web software user interfaces is named Polymer. It contains the Polymer library, a shim that delivers an internet Components API for web browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, like the "paper elements collection" that features visual elements of the Material Design.
