Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design terminology developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "cards" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as shadows and lamps.Yahoo declared Materials Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Custom made Mat?as Duarte discussed that, "unlike real newspaper, our digital materials can expand and reform intelligently. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Shadows and seams provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google says that their new design dialect is dependant on ink and paper.Material Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat library, which is utilized on practically all Android devices created after 2009. Material Design will little by little be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a regular experience across all platforms and applications. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the look language into their applicationsAs of 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Android experienced applied the new design vocabulary, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Yahoo Docs, Slides and sheets, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all the Google Play-branded applications, and to a smaller level the Chrome Yahoo and web browser Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical execution of Materials Design for web request user interfaces is called Polymer. It consists of the Polymer catalogue, a shim that delivers a Web Components API for browsers that do not implement the standard natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that features visual elements of the Material Design.
