Materials Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design vocabulary developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "cards" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth results such as lighting and shadows.On June 25 google declared Materials Design, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Custom made Mat?as Duarte discussed that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can intelligently broaden and reform. " Google expresses that their new design vocabulary is based on ink and newspaper.Material Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat library, which is used on nearly all Android devices manufactured after 2009. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a consistent experience across all platforms and applications. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language into their applicationsAs of 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Google android had applied the new design language, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Yahoo Docs, Slides and sheets, Google Maps, Inbox, all of the Google Play-branded applications, also to a smaller degree the Chrome browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Materials Design for web program user interfaces is called Polymer. It contains the Polymer catalogue, a shim that delivers a Web Components API for browsers that not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that features visual elements of the Materials Design.
