Material Design (codenamed Quantum Paper) is a design terminology developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding upon the "credit card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based designs, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth results such as shadows and light.Yahoo released Material Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Yahoo I/O conference.Creator Mat?as Duarte discussed that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can increase and reform intelligently. Material has physical corners and surfaces. Seams and shadows provide meaning about what you can touch. " Google areas that their new design language is based on ink and paper.Material Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat catalogue, which is used on nearly all Android devices produced after 2009. Material Design will gradually be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a steady experience across all applications and platforms. Google in addition has released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language into their applicationsBy 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Google android possessed applied the new design dialect, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Yahoo Docs, Slides and sheets, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all the Yahoo Play-branded applications, and to an inferior degree the Chrome internet browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical execution of Materials Design for web application user interfaces is called Polymer. It includes the Polymer catalogue, a shim that delivers an internet Components API for browsers that not implement the standard natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that has visual components of the Materials Design.
