Expanding upon the "credit card" motifs that debuted in Yahoo Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth results such as lamps and shadows.Google released Materials Design on June 25, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Designer Mat?as Duarte discussed that, "unlike real newspaper, our digital materials can intelligently develop and reform. Materials has physical ends and areas. Shadows and seams provide meaning about what you can touch. " Google states that their new design language is based on paper and ink.Materials Design can be utilized in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which can be used on all Android devices manufactured after 2009 virtually. Material Design will steadily be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a constant experience across all applications and platforms. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the look language to their applicationsAs of 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Google android experienced applied the new design vocabulary, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Yahoo Docs, Slides and sheets, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all of the Yahoo Play-branded applications, and to a smaller scope the Stainless Yahoo and web browser Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Material Design for web request user interfaces is named Polymer. It contains the Polymer catalogue, a shim that provides an online Components API for browsers that do not implement the standard natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that has visual components of the Materials Design.
