Materials Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design dialect developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding after the "greeting card" motifs that debuted in Yahoo Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive transitions and animations, padding, and depth effects such as shadows and lighting.On June 25 google declared Material Design, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Designer Mat?as Duarte discussed that, "unlike real newspaper, our digital materials can broaden and reform intelligently. Material has physical surfaces and edges. Seams and shadows provide meaning in what you can touch. " Google state governments that their new design dialect is dependant on ink and paper.Materials Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which is employed on almost all Android devices created after 2009. Material Design will slowly but surely be extended throughout Google's array of web and mobile products, providing a consistent experience across all applications and platforms. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language into their applicationsAs of 2015 almost all of Google's mobile applications for Android acquired applied the new design vocabulary, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all of the Google Play-branded applications, and to an inferior amount the Chromium web browser and Yahoo Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical implementation of Material Design for web application user interfaces is called Polymer. It contains the Polymer catalogue, a shim that provides a Web Components API for web browsers that do not implement the typical natively, and an elements catalog, including the "paper elements collection" that features visual elements of the Material Design.
