Materials Design (codenamed Quantum Newspaper) is a design language developed in 2014 by Yahoo. Expanding upon the "card" motifs that debuted in Google Now, Materials Design makes more liberal use of grid-based designs, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth results such as lamps and shadows.On June 25 google declared Materials Design, 2014, at the 2014 Google I/O conference.Developer Mat?as Duarte explained that, "unlike real paper, our digital materials can intelligently increase and reform. " Google states that their new design language is based on paper and ink.Material Design can be used in API Level 21 and newer via the v7 appcompat collection, which is utilized on almost all Android devices produced after 2009. Material Design will gradually be extended throughout Google's selection of web and mobile products, providing a constant experience across all platforms and applications. Google has also released application programming interfaces (APIs) for third-party developers to include the design language into their applicationsAs of 2015 most of Google's mobile applications for Google android acquired applied the new design terms, including Gmail, YouTube, Yahoo Drive, Google Docs, Slides and sheets, Yahoo Maps, Inbox, all of the Yahoo Play-branded applications, also to a smaller amount the Chromium web browser and Google Keep. The desktop web-interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Inbox have incorporated it as well.The canonical execution of Materials Design for web software user interfaces is called Polymer. It contains the Polymer catalogue, a shim that provides an online Components API for browsers that not implement the standard natively, and an elements catalog, like the "paper elements collection" that has visual components of the Materials Design.
